Founded in 1998 and located in Hungary, Biropharma Kft. is a manufacturer of herbal medicine and natural supplements for international distribution.

Our flagship brands are Avemar, a complementary cancer treatment product and Immunovet, a natural dietary supplement for veterinary use. These unique and original fermented wheat germ extract products have been available worldwide for two decades.

Our facility has been operating in Kunfehértó, Hungary since 1987. Over the years, it has operated under various names and owners. The current owner is Columbus Venture Capital Fund, which manages EXIM Bank’s investments.

In 1987, we were among the first in Hungary to establish a facility suitable for manufacturing medicinal products (specifically instant medicinal teas) using extraction methods. The first significant market success after the launch was the distribution of instant medicinal teas in Hungary, followed by exports to Italy.

The work requiring in-house product development and new technology remained extensive at the facility. This was accompanied by the gradual development of documentation, training, and quality assurance systems in accordance with ISO 9001, HACCP, and GMP requirements.

The company has developed numerous new products.

In 1998, Dr. Máté Hidvégi, together with László Nagypál and Dr. Klára Déri, developed the industrial technology for the Avemar product based on a biotechnological process. The production of Avemar gave new impetus to the facility’s development, and the company subsequently adopted the name Biropharma, paying homage to Dr. Máté Hidvégi’s maternal grandmother, Szaniszla Bíró, whose husband was the founder of the pharmaceutical institute at the University of Szeged and dean of the medical faculty.

In 2000, the company obtained ISO 9001 certification, and on January 1, 2001, we also implemented the HACCP system. In the Summer of 2001, we acquired a pharmaceutical manufacturing license for herbal extracts and liquid dosage forms. In 2002, based on clinical results, we succeeded in obtaining authorization for the Avemar product as a „dietary food for special medical purposes for cancer patients,” which gave new momentum to Avemar’s market success. The export of Avemar products also began.

Since 2003, the facility has been registered as an animal feed production plant. The manufactured product is Immunovet supplementary feed, which we now produce in granulate and tablet forms for several animal species.

We sell significant quantities of pharmacopoeial tinctures and spray-dried plant extracts to well-established, renowned domestic companies. We also perform contract manufacturing on a smaller scale.
